Mijas Golf Internacional
Created by Robert Trent Jones Senior, golf course architect par excellence and world renowned for his work that spreads from the Mediterrranean to the Pacific, the Los Lagos and Los Olivos courses take the imagination, fulfilling the vision of the man and capturing the heart of every golfer who accepts his challenge.

Trent Jones believed that “every hole should be a hard par and an easy bogey”. Mijas Golf International lives up to that belief, maintaining the sanctity of par with Trent Jones’ hallmarks of strategically placed water and sand, yet offering the high handicapper generous, only gently undulating fairways and a general impression of wide open space.

The dawning of the day… of a search for excellence……of to create a golfing experience that will live in the memory forever. This is Mijas Golf International, Los Lagos and Los Olivos.

Set again the guardian backdrop of the Sierra de Mijas, Los Lagos takes it’s name from seven thirsty water hazards. With over 150 acres of perfumed Jacaranda, exotic Araucalia Pines, etc. This mildly undulating course pays fine tribute to the skills of the American master designer.

Measuring a massive 6963 yards (6367metres) from the white tees, the par 71 Los Lagos course with its generous fairways serves to deceive. For there is a sting in the architect’s tail. His design set-up, whilst fair, requires an accuracy of position if you are to avoid massive bunkers or deep water hazards in your line to the flag.

No hole so characterises this course as the 5th – some 617 yards (564 metres), curving seeming endlessly around a boundary wall and over a full 100 yards (91,44 metres) of fairway bunker, it approaches the green through a narrowing funnel with out of bounds left and large lake to the right.

Founded in 1984, Although both are the work of the same designer, there is no doubt there are interesting contrasts between the two courses: if Los Lagos is based on hazards of water and sand, Los Olivos has strategic narrow tree lined fairways and elevated greens.

Los Olivos also designed by Trent Jones and built by Cabell Robinson, opened in 1984. Los Olivos complements Los Lagos, but offers a tighter challenge. This par 70 course measures 6386 yards (5840 metres) was completely refurbished by Cabell Robinson during the season 2000-2001, following Trent Jones’ original design concept.

The main feature which distinguishes this course from the other is the abundance of trees – hence the name – and its smaller size, as well as fewer water hazards. The greens are smaller, undulating and well defended.
